Moulescoomb Library

These designs were produced to enable an informed discussion between local community and the Council about a no-demolition proposal for homes above the existing library.

We propose retaining the existing building retaining the embodied carbon, and build new homes above using TopHuis®. This allows the ground floor community use to remain (either continuing as a library or as a community run facility). Above, the sociable deck access gives space to grow plants, improve biodiversity and allow people to get to know their neighbours whilst also protecting the building from extreme sun and rain. There is always two separate escape routes in an emergency.
